Up The Aeroponics Grow Room
Setting up your grow room is not especially difficult
if you remember the basics. Ventilation, light, and nutrients are
what your plants require. Your grow room must provide the basics,
the rest is about convenience.
Ventilation can be as simple as a box fan in a doorway, or a Vortex
fan ducted through a wall or ceiling. A fan not only provides fresh
air but can mitigate excessive heat from lighting fixtures. I personally
like to run a fan continuously during the "light cycle".
If odor is a concern, there are many effective in line filters.
Your grow room ceiling height will determine what kind of lighting
fixtures you can use and how much ventilation you must provide.
The more height you have to work with the more lighting options
you have and the less critical heat build up will be. I prefer a
ceiling height of 8 feet.
Much smaller rooms just require advanced lighting like Sun Systems
TekLight T-5 fluorescent, which provides 40,000 lumens, almost no
heat, and can be lowered to a few inches above the plant canopy.
Paint the walls, ceiling, and floor (if concrete) with white paint.
On concrete floors use a latex house paint. If you use one of the
epoxy "floor paints" my experience is it will peel when
moisture migrates up through the concrete from below. House paint
is designed to breath. White paint is more reflective than Mylar.
If you are building a grow room from scratch, by all means incorporate
a utility tub with a plumbed drain. Often times that is not possible
though, which may require running a hose in to fill or drain a nutrient
tank.
The Astrogrow system has a pump out valve which allows you to pump
the system out into a sink or drain, or through a garden hose into
another room or out a window into an outdoor garden.
Cleanliness is extremely important, the more room you have around
your equipment the easier it will be to keep the environment clean.
You will need electrical outlets to connect your lighting, ventilation,
and pumps.
